Elands are very adaptable to habitat, and can thrive in semi desert shrubveld, in woodlands and moist mountain grasslands. Trees and shrubs are very important. They avoid open grasslands.
They are not dependant on water. Eland make a very characteristic clicking sound when they walk.
The Eland are part of the spiral horn family.
